Summer has arrived in Maine. Of course, that means it’s time for a bite of a Guinness World Record-breaking 60-foot long lobster roll. No kidding! I just watched a troupe of roller derby players unload the world’s longest seafood sandwich from the back of a flatbed truck. Obviously, it would have been easier to craft individual rolls for attendants of Portland’s annual Old Port Festival. But the world’s longest lobster roll was not built to be practical, it was built to be celebratory; much like the Carnival of Personal Finance. [...]

There’s not a lot of good news out there these days. The stock market continues to reach new lows, unemployment is skyrocketing, and economists are predicting this recession will be around a lot longer than we first hoped.
But if we always focus on the bad, we’ll never see the good. Thanksgiving is next week—a time to take a few days to spend with family or friends and hopefully far away from the worries of work and money. In the meantime, here are a few articles that caught my eye this week. [...]
Phew! I finished my site updates last night and was able to get to bed at a decent hour. I’ve settled on this new site design (sorry for the recent testing). I hope it provides you a with a cleaner, simpler, and more pleasant reading experience.
Also, anybody subscribed by email should get a confirmation for the new subscription this morning. I apologize for this step and thank you for your continued interest. Now, onto my favorite posts this week. [...]
Well guys, I was pretty unimpressed with the debate last night. I’m glad neither candidate was totally embarrassing to watch, but I simply turned off the TV feeling, well, uninspired. I was inspired, however, by some great blog posts this week. Check ‘em out: [...]
Is anybody else sick of hearing about lipstick? I, for one, want to hear about the issues again. Like sustainable tax relief for Americans earning less than $100 grand, the creation of good-paying jobs here in states, affordable health care for every American, and a realistic way to reduce our dependence on foreign oil—or petroleum at all, for that matter—before we can no longer afford to drive to work. My two cents. Here’s a spattering of other bloggers’ views (on personal finance at least), that I particularly enjoyed this week: [...]
It’s Labor Day already? Where does the summer go? Oh, well. I’m gonna try not to think about that and instead just get pumped for a three-day weekend! I hope you’re able to slow down and celebrate a bit this weekend, too. Maybe you’re just getting back on campus, or taking a much-needed break from work. Whatever you do, take a moment to de-stress about money. After all, your money doesn’t love you back, and you can’t take it with you when you die. [...]
The summer sun is shining here in the Boston area today, but the days are getting shorter and there has been a chill in the air the last few nights that can only mean one thing: September’s right around the corner. In this week’s weekly roundup I feature a few of my favorite articles from the week, the first of which are especially suited for students returning to school. [...]
