About cash back credit cards

Cash back credit cards pay you a small percentage of your purchases each month. Usually, you can choose to redeem this cash back by getting a check, a credit on your statement, or by trading them for gift cards. Most cash back credit cards pay a fixed percentage on every dollar and then a promotional percentage on certain types of charges (for example, a card might pay more on money spent at gas stations — or a specific chain of stores during a particular season).

You can get more money back out of cash back credit cards if you choose one that pays a higher percentage of rewards on purchases you make more often.

Finally, cash back credit cards tend to have higher interest rates than credit cards that don’t pay rewards. Keep this in mind if you don’t pay your balance off in full each and every month. You may be wise to forgo a cash back credit and instead get a credit card that may not offer rewards but has a lower regular APR.
