Schadenfreude: Kate Gosselin is Broke
Did you hear this one? Kate Gosselin of Jon and Kate Plus Eight fame is claiming to be broke. The reality TV mom told Meredith Vieira on the Today show this morning that her estranged husband Jon Gosselin basically emptied their joint bank account.
Gosselin said her husband tool “$230,000 of the $231,000″ in the account after TLC announced that Jon would be leaving the series. Jon, meanwhile, contends that he withdrew far less cash and that Kate has more money—perhaps millions—stashed in other accounts.
Kate told Today that earlier this year she took $100k out of the account just in case this sort of thing happened, but then she put it back because their separation agreement requires that both spouses must consent to anything they do with joint property.

The embattled couple will undoubtedly be battling it out in court soon.
What’s the lesson here? No, I didn’t just write this up because I love watching the downfall of whiny reality stars. When you get married, joint property is good, but keep separate accounts! You need to make sure you can survive if the one you love goes crazy, turns on you, and takes the money and runs.

Wow what a sad situation. I’m glad that divorce in my country is severely frowned upon. That’s why I’m never marrying American girls. Too much about money.
