The advent of online stock brokers made it easy for anybody to start investing. Zecco, one such online broker, makes it affordable.
Zecco is a discount online brokerage launched in 2006 that now has over 100,000 trading customers.
According to mainstream media reviews from Kiplinger’s, The Wall Street Journal, and U.S. News, Zecco’s Web site is fast and provides everything the novice investor should need. Combined with one of the lowest trading fees around (just $4.50), Zecco is a great choice for beginning investors.
New Zecco Pricing
Until recently, Zecco lured customers with 10 free trades per month if they maintained just a $2,500 minimum balance. Unfortunately, the broker had to change their pricing structure to reflect the current market. Now the minimum balance required to get 10 free trades a month is $25,000. For everybody else, trades are still just $4.50.
That $25,000 minimum balance will most likely exclude most of us new investors from earning free trades. Investors who make 25 paid trades or more each month can also qualify for the 10 free trades, regardless of their balance, although I wouldn’t recommend trading that much. After all, the best investing advice is to buy, hold, and forget. Just ignore the market.
The Bottom Line
Following a prudent buy and hold strategy, Zecco is still a great choice for new investors. At just $4.50 a trade (compared to $15, $20, even $30 at other brokers), you can use a small starting investment to buy a portfolio of stocks without blowing a big chunk of your cash on trading commissions.
