Comment Policy
First things first, please remember that your words are your own. Money Under 30 and its employees assume no responsibility for the content of reader comments. This is especially important to remember if somebody is providing financial advice in the comments section. There are many knowledgeable professionals that try to help readers in the comments, but there are also crazies. Always verify online information with additional sources!
Our comments are a place to exchange intelligent and informed commentary, humorous observations, relevant personal experiences and substantive questions in a way that enhances the quality of our content. To that end, we ask that readers who wish to get involved in our conversation follow our simple, common-sense comments policy.
Moderation
We may moderate comments that contain links and comments from first-time authors. If you have prior approved comments, we’ll let your subsequent comments go up immediately (but we may still remove your comment if you don’t play nice).
Although we try to publish most comments, we reserve the right to withhold or remove comments that violate our comments policy. Specifically:
SPAM and Junk Comments
It pretty much goes without saying that if your comment is about porn, online gambling, prescription medications, or replica watches, we won’t approve it. But in general, we also will not approve “junk comments” that simply contain a link or a few words like “great post”, “I agree” or “who cares?”
Along these lines, no matter how good a comment is, if you list your name as a keyword, the comment may be deleted.
Copyedits, Style and Substance
We’re people, too. That means we’re not perfect. If you see that we spelled something wrong or notice some other mistake, we would really appreciate knowing about it, but please send it to us directly using our contact us page. Same goes for general questions or comments regarding our style or the general subject-matter of an article.
Anything Off Topic
Please try to keep to the topic at hand and forgo the political rants.
Unnecessary Negativity and/or Judgment
We’re not all going to agree, so constructive criticism is welcomed. But do not attack or ridicule people. Do not judge other authors or point out how much better you are than other authors. Even if you are right, they will never agree.
Hatred
We will not tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia, xenophobia and other hatred.
Blatant Self-Promotion
In general, comments akin to “Hey, my Website has a page on this topic too, click this link…” will not be approved. You are always welcome to leave a valuable comment and include your URL with your author name. Note, however, that all links within comments contain “no follow” tags.
Fraud
Anonymous comments are fine, fraudulent comments are not. Do not pretend to be somebody else. We can tell, and we will delete the comment.
Disclose Your Employer
If you are getting paid to post a comment (for example, you work for the company you’re linking your name to), you must disclose that fact. It doesn’t have to be a big deal (you can say, “Hey this is Dan I work at ABC Bank and I think…”), but it does need to be there.
Editing
In general, we either approve or delete comments, we do not edit them. The rare exception may be to correct an obvious mistake that creates confusion or to reformat a link.
The Bottom Line
If your comment is on-topic, well thought-out and adds value, we will probably publish it. If you have your doubts, we will too. If you have questions about this policy or have feedback that does not belong in comments, please let us know using our contact form.
Thanks!
