So, which do we recommend?

That, of course, depends on what exactly you’re looking for.

In my personal experience, a great credit card just for gas is the Sunoco Rewards credit card. But I also get points from my grocery store—so that is what truly makes it worth it. Five cents off may not seem like much, but paired with the substantial grocery points, you’re looking a great savings. And I only shop for myself and my partner, larger families earn even more points because they have to buy more anyway.

For people who drive a lot and want to maximize their savings at the pump, this is my favorite gas rewards credit card.

If you can’t sign up for extra rewards at grocery stores, the second best card just for gas is definitely the ExxonMobil™ Smart card, which offers six cents off rather than five (again, that adds up).

This is a straightforward gas rewards card. Exxon and Mobil stations are everywhere, so you should have no problem finding a station. Plus, all smartphones allow you to search for certain gas station near you if you ever can’t find one.

Alternatives to gas credit cards

If you didn’t find the perfect card for you, we recommend checking out some other cards on the market. They might offer slightly lower rewards on gas, but they make up for it with other perks, like travel rewards, cash back in other categories, and even some really cool and unique benefits.

Finding the right credit card is much simpler if you know your credit score and can narrow your search to only the cards you know you’ll get approved for. We’ve made it easy for you. If you don’t already know your score, use our quick and free Credit Score Estimator tool – then find the perfect card for you!

Summary

The price of gas has a history of fluctuation. A cash back card that offers rewards with gas stations in mind can help you get some money back, even when fuel costs are high.
